Lockdown Learnings

Image
A mandatory lockdown post... Lessons learnt, discoveries made, courses corrected, myths debunked, fears dispelled- lockdown you did so much for me.  No, I did not take up an online course but learnt a few lessons in tolerance and patience. I learnt how to function with limited resources. I learnt how a few bags of nervous systems can live together in perfect harmony with strategically placed keep-quiets and speak-ups. I learnt how we can still continue with the journey despite a lot of by-passes being blocked. I learnt how we can still function like a well-oiled machine with a few dependencies going kaput. I discovered that I had so much in my kitchen and my wardrobes. I discovered the uses of so many spices I didn’t know the names of. I discovered that I had a hidden love for board games and storytelling. I discovered that I had too much that I didn’t want. I also discovered that I can cook after all. I corrected my path, I changed my course. I now know where I nee

Of daddies and awkward expression of emotions

Daddy, papa, abba, abbu, pops, pa, daata, sometimes even Chachaji - the many names of fathers given by their loving (sometimes fearing) children. Betu, Gudiya, Sona, Pari or Aanchu (in our case) - the names that daddies give to their little princesses. While the father-son bond is quite easy and natural, the father-daughter bond is quite unique. Yes! That’s how it can be best expressed - unique. And though much is said and written about this bond, am penning a few thoughts here as I see it through my eyes. With a son, the dad knows just where the line is to be drawn as dad too was once a young lad (ok ok, my apologies - they always remain young-at-heart lads!!) but with daughters our beloved daddies are kinda lost. They want the lil girl to be all tough and strong but then are afraid of letting her free to explore the world around. They want to be around their babies all the time. Will share a few instances of this awkwardness with which these cutie pies deal with their daughters

Of things we love

To begin with, we looked at each other during the rally briefing and filled 2nd position in the Kotak contest card. Our reason, well we came 2nd last year. But we were three then, and just two of us this time around. But we believed in ourselves and dived in!! Move to the rally day. Just as we were flagged off, all the anxiety vanished and hard work began. The juggling between road book, calculations, sipping water, munching something and trying to enjoy the drive too (which we did not get an opportunity to) kept us occupied all through the 8-9 hours of the day 1. At Ganpati Pule I felt too fatigued and sick, too sick to even ask my partner how she felt though I could see that she was frozen in a driving position! But having a doctor as your partner is a boon, she gave me one of those magic pills and I wanted to explore the beaches of Ganpati Pule in no time.  Day 2 morning, we were made to feel like celebrities in the breakfast room. We had not checked our

Chasing the Elusive Sun

Think of Rajasthan and images of vast sand dunes and handsome camels come to the mind. Every photographer, amateur or professional has to have a sunset or sunrise picture on the dunes to complete their portfolio - it is a must-have kind of a picture. As if, it says “been there done that”! We, who specialise in tourism in Rajasthan have been seeing these tourists and photographers for decades now, facilitating their photography quests by providing information, support, logistics, and tips too. This time around, we thought of walking in their shoes and getting some of such shots of our own. So the team that makes all the wonderful packages happen, embarked upon a “Rajasthan Bhraman” of their own with a primary agenda of clicking some fabulous pictures of our beautiful state of Rajasthan. We started from Jaipur and snaked our path via Alsisar and Mandawa onto Bikaner. The beautiful haveli city of Bikaner kept us mesmerised with its many palaces, forts, sanctuaries and of course,

The Accidental Superhero

I was really really (yes double really!) looking forward to my trip across Rajasthan ; though in the summer month of April yet excitement to the hilt. As the days of my travel were approaching, I was busy preparing my “things to carry” list mentally. Had everything in place, the clothes, the shoes, the sunglasses, scarves, sipper, sun screen, books to read, things to munch, my minimal makeup stuff, my maximal accessories trinkets, power bank, camera and of course the people I wanted to oblige with my graceful company and the wonders of warm Rajasthan! But as luck would have it, due to sudden emergency in the family I had to rush to Rajasthan totally unprepared and much before the scheduled tour dates. The personal emergency was a personal tragedy and I decided to cancel my tour. As the date of the tour approached, my husband asked me to reconsider the original plans and suggested that I start the tour a little late but not cancel it entirely. Having learnt to cope up with the tragedy
